Besides the obvious local hikes like Kane Mountain, Nine Corner, Broomstick, etc., there are MANY other local lakes and hiking trails within just a few short miles. Most of which, are unknown to the general public. If you want to try some more remote trails, you should take route 10 North to the Powley Piseco Road. There are dozens of lakes and trails off of this road and the 19 mile dirt road is worth the drive in itself. Hikes off the Powely Road worth mentioning are ClockMill Pond, Sand Lake, Rock Lake, Goldmine Stream Falls, and Potholers. All have good fishing and great areas in which to camp and I rarely seen anyone out there. You certainly won't see the weekend crowds that you typically find at places like Nine Corners. I can provide detailed accesss points with mileage if you are so interested and I know of countless other local hikes with varying degrees of difficulty (to include GPS Bushwacks) such as Iron Lake, Black Cat Lake, Brown Lake, Christian Lake, etc.. Just reply to this thread and I'll give you more details. Good Luck!
